Vehicle Baggage Capacity & Luggage Guidelines

At Droptaxis Oneway, your highway safety, seating legroom, and travel comfort are our highest priorities. Outstation journeys across South India require sufficient trunk space for your suitcases without compromising the air-conditioned cabin seating area. This Luggage Policy outlines vehicle boot capacities, permitted baggage dimensions, rooftop carrier regulations, and prohibited cargo rules.

1. Vehicle Luggage Capacity Quick Reference Table

To ensure an uncrowded and relaxing ride, please refer to our recommended vehicle luggage limits before confirming your booking:

2. Detailed Vehicle Category Breakdown

A. Sedan Class (Maruti Swift Dzire, Toyota Etios, Hyundai Aura)

Our compact sedans boast dedicated boot capacities of approximately 380 to 400 liters. This accommodates two full-sized trolley suitcases (up to 28 inches) lying flat side-by-side, plus one or two small soft backpacks on top. If you are traveling as a party of 4 adults carrying more than 2 large international hard-shell suitcases, we strongly recommend upgrading to an SUV to prevent luggage from encroaching on passenger seat legroom.

B. Multi-Utility Vehicles (Maruti Suzuki Ertiga)

The Maruti Ertiga is an exceptional family car with 3 seating rows. When all 3 rows are fully occupied by 6 passengers, rear boot space behind the third row is approximately 209 liters (sufficient for 2 medium duffel bags or cabin trolleys). However, if your party consists of 4 or 5 passengers, the rear 50:50 split third row can be folded down, expanding cargo capacity to over 550 liters, easily accommodating 4 large suitcases and family cartons.

C. Premium SUVs (Toyota Innova & Innova Crysta)

The Toyota Innova Crysta is South India's undisputed favorite for long-distance highway travel. Even with 7 passengers seated, the generous rear vertical cargo bay holds 3 medium trolleys. For parties of 4 to 5 passengers, the foldable third-row seats transform the rear into a cavernous 750+ liter luggage sanctuary, easily swallowing international airline suitcases, child strollers, and pilgrimage offerings.

D. Tempo Travellers (12, 14, 17, and 20 Seater)

Designed specifically for joint families, wedding entourages, and corporate offsite delegations, our Tempo Travellers feature dedicated, partitioned rear cargo holds completely separated from passenger seats. In addition, internal overhead parcel racks allow passengers to keep personal laptops, jackets, and handbags within easy arm's reach.

3. Rooftop Luggage Carriers & Government RTO Regulations

In compliance with Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) and state transport authority notifications in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh:

• Rooftop luggage carriers are installed strictly on designated tourist commercial vehicles (Yellow Board).
• When luggage is secured onto the rooftop carrier, our chauffeurs utilize heavy-duty waterproof tarpaulins and safety tie-down ropes to protect your luggage against highway dust, wind gusts, and sudden monsoon showers.
• If your trip requires a rooftop carrier, please notify our reservation team at the time of booking so an appropriately equipped vehicle is assigned.

4. Fragile Items, Electronic Gadgets & High-Value Possessions

Passengers are strongly advised to keep delicate and high-value possessions inside the passenger cabin under personal supervision:

• Laptops, Cameras & Tablets: Please carry these in personal laptop backpacks rather than placing them in the boot, where highway road vibrations might cause accidental damage.
• Jewelry, Cash & Important Legal Documents: Must always remain on your person. Droptaxis Oneway and its drivers accept no liability for loss or misplacement of unattended high-value personal valuables.
• Temple Offerings, Clay Idols & Glassware: Inform the chauffeur upon arrival so they can arrange safe cabin storage.

5. Strictly Prohibited & Hazardous Materials

Under Indian criminal law, transport safety acts, and our corporate safety policy, passengers are strictly prohibited from loading the following materials into Droptaxis Oneway vehicles:

Chauffeurs have the explicit legal right to inspect cargo and refuse transportation if hazardous or illegal contraband is identified.

6. Driver Baggage Handling & Lost Property Protocol

Our chauffeurs are trained to assist passengers with courteous baggage loading and unloading at both your pickup doorstep and drop-off destination.

Lost & Found Helpline: If you realize after your drop-off that you left a phone, bag, or personal item inside the vehicle, contact our 24/7 central desk immediately at +91 9384606828 with your booking ID. Our operations team will contact the driver immediately, secure the vehicle cabin, and coordinate the safe return of your property at the earliest opportunity.

7. Tips for Airport Travelers with International Luggage

If you are traveling to or from Chennai International Airport (MAA) or Bangalore Kempegowda Airport (BLR) with overseas baggage (typically two 23 kg or 32 kg check-in bags per passenger):

• For 1 or 2 passengers with up to 3 large suitcases: A Sedan (Dzire/Etios) is sufficient.
• For 3 or more passengers with multiple international bags: We strongly advise selecting our Toyota Innova or Crysta to ensure all suitcases fit comfortably in the rear hold without blocking rear-view mirrors or passenger seats.

8. Special Cargo: Musical Instruments, Sports Gear & Medical Equipment

We regularly transport artists, athletes, students, and patients who need to transport specialized equipment:

• Classical Musical Instruments (Veena, Mridangam, Guitar): We understand the cultural heritage of Carnatic instruments. These delicate instruments should be housed in rigid flight cases and can be positioned across the rear passenger bench in our Sedans or secured in the flat rear bay of an SUV.
• Golf Kits, Cricket Bags & Bicycles: Large sports kits require either an Ertiga with folded rear seats or an Innova Crysta. Folding bicycles can be accommodated in SUVs with prior intimation.
• Wheelchairs & Walking Aids: Foldable manual wheelchairs, walkers, and portable oxygen concentrators are transported free of charge and given priority trunk placement.

9. Domestic Pets & Animal Transportation Guidelines

We understand that pets are cherished family members. At Droptaxis Oneway, domestic dogs and cats may accompany you on outstation drop taxi trips under the following conditions:

• Mandatory Prior Notification: Please inform our booking desk that you are traveling with a pet so we assign a pet-friendly chauffeur and appropriate vehicle.
• Protective Seat Covers: Passengers should bring a clean towel, blanket, or protective pet seat hammock to keep seats clean of pet hair and mud.
• Pet Safety & Leashes: Pets must remain leashed or inside secure travel crates during highway transit for driver safety and pet comfort.
